PERFORMING ANIMALS

1. She tirelessly worked personally and also led the PFA team to RESCUE CLOSE TO 85 WILD ANIMALS USED IN CIRCUSES IN DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING SITUATIONS - which included tigers, lions and chimpanzeesn-those abandoned by circus owners after the 1999 ban by MoEF, GOI in the use of wildlife in circuses. These wild animals were rescued and rehabilitated in the Wildlife Rescue Centers (WRC) at Vandalur/Tirupati. The rescues were high risk, violent and involved police and legal interventions. These circus animals were often found hidden in distant estates and remote villages like Wayanad, Sattur etc. where they were found starving and neglected in closed caravans far from public eye

2. IN AN EPIC RESCUE- that ran into two days -with the help of 50 odd police personnel, 4 CHIMPANZEES – GURU – LAKSHMI – GANGA AND SHIVA WERE RESCUED FROM DEPLORABLE CONDITIONS FROM THE GREAT ROYAL CIRCUS IN 2004. Shiva and Ganga ( brother and sister ) had been locked in caravans for more than 40years. Guru an albino chimp was aggressive and broken in spirit, Lakshmi was found crying a heart out with a spinal cord injury and with bleeding bed sores. She is responsible for EXPOSING THE CRUELTY IN THE USE OF HORSES IN JOY RIDES ON THE BEACHES IN CHENNAI AND EVOKED A BAN FROM THE HOME DEPT., Tamil Nadu Govt. in the use of beach horses in Chennai in 2004. However this did not last for many years.

3. In Project called “NAMMA CHENNAI NAMMA HORSES” during the entire period of the lock down in 2020, she took on the daunting challenge to feed 149 starving beach horses. on the beaches of Mahabalipuram, Kovalam and Marina. More than 75000 kg of food / fodder was distributed and the very sick and dying horses taken into the PFA shelter with funds mobilized exclusively for this purpose. The very sick and starved horses were rescued and taken care in the PFA shelter.
The project was revived in 2023 seeing the pathetic condition of the horses and with the help of the police, Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board and Corporation of Chennai strict regulations in maintenance and care have been introduced. Regular supply of fodder / feed is sent for 163 odd horses on the beaches of Marina and Beasant Nagar. The injured and old horses have been taken into the shelter in her care.

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
